Organ donation carries a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding with it. That
is reasonable as it is a fairly new process that has made great strides over the past several years. Procurement
and distribution policies are always undergoing improvements and much of the information that many people in the U.S. and
around the world receive is offered by television programs and movies. We must remember that these
are entertainment pieces and they tend to use certain creative license to make the storylines more dramatic and tense/uplifting.
I hope to address many of these myths and misunderstandings and put people at ease with the process. Many
people fear what they don’t understand, so taking the fear out of the equation should be one of our main goals.
Any topic worth discussing is
worth discussing well. I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinion and feelings on the subject
of being a donor. Therefore I welcome any discussion that someone visiting this site might want to have.
I will post certain discussion topics as they are sent to me through the contact links.
There are many terrific sites out on the internet
that can get you all kinds of information to many different views. I could include all of this information
on my site, but I would be at this for years and it would be better if I linked you to the original authors. I
will add almost any related link I am asked to, as well as the ones I know of that I find valuable.
Finally, there would be no point in this site
if I didn’t provide you with an opportunity to register to be an organ donor. The U.S. does not have
a national Organ Donor Registry and, instead, leaves it up to each individual state. I will include a link
to every state Donor Registry site and encourage you to sign up. Please let your loved ones know that this
is your wish. There is an awful lot for family members to go through in a time like that, and making them contemplate your
true desire is unfair and stressful to them. A simple conversation could prevent that from being an issue.
